How much should I budget for corporate gift baskets?
Most companies budget between $50-200 on average for employee and client gifts (not including employee bonuses). However, in industries where the competition for talent or clients is fierce, companies that wish to stand out often spend upward of $200-300 on gifts.
It’s generally advisable not to skimp on your employees or clients. Always opt for quality products vs. quantity. Going with low-end products and unknown brands, especially when gifting technology items, will not win you any fans. The old adage of what you give is what you get also applies here.
What are the tax implications of gifting baskets to employees?
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) usually considers gifts to employees as taxable fringe benefits: “The benefit is subject to employment taxes and must be reported on Form W-2.”
If the gift is business-related – tech, software, or office supplies like pens and portfolios – it will most likely not be judged as a gift for tax purposes.
How can I know what will make an engaging corporate gift?
A great option is to give the gift of choice. CorporateGift.com offers collections that let them choose, so you’ll never send an unappreciated gift again. Recipients can pick from a selection you choose, or they can decline or donate its value to charity.
You also have the option to enable exchanges or upgrades for gifts in the CorporateGift.com Marketplace.
The employee gets a redemption link to select the gift they want and provide their mailing details. You only get billed for the items and gifts that were redeemed.
How does the eGift process work?
When gifting through the CorporateGift.com Marketplace, you can send single-choice eGifts of any qualifying product (find eGifts by filtering any Category or Search by Send as eGift). With a standard (single choice) eGift, your recipient may only redeem the specific product you choose.
You can also choose an “Let Them Choose” eGift Collection and let your recipient choose a gift from a number of options you select.
After selecting your Collection, budget range and number of recipients, you will see an estimated cost summary, which is the total deposit you will pay when placing your order.
Your total cost is dependent on the number of recipients that redeem gifts and what they choose (for gift cost), and where they live (for tax and shipping).
When placing an eGift order, you will pay a deposit upfront for the maximum estimated cost for gifts, shipping, tax, and eGift fees.
When you close your eGift order and settle the transaction after the redemption period (up to 90 days), you will be refunded for the total difference between your deposit and the actual cost.
What does the eGift process cost?
Max gift cost: Each recipient’s gift cost will not exceed the upper limit of your selected budget range. The max gift cost estimate calculates the total of the highest priced gift in your chosen Collection, multiplied by the number of recipients in your order.
When you close your eGift order and settle the transaction, you will receive a refund for the difference between your deposit and the value of each gift redeemed.
Max shipping: The max shipping estimate is the total of the highest ground shipping rate from your chosen Collection, multiplied by the number of recipients in the order. Any overage will be refunded when the eGift is closed.
Max sales tax: The max sales tax calculates 6.625% sales tax for the highest priced gift in your chosen Collection, multiplied by the number of recipients in the order. You will only pay sales tax for recipients who ship their gift to the State of New Jersey, and for the actual value of the gifts they redeem. Any overage will be refunded when the eGift is closed.
eGift fee: To cover our costs to service your eGift, a non-refundable eGift fee of 12% of the minimum gift cost per recipient is applied to your order. This fee is calculated at 12% of the low end of your selected budget range.
eGift fees are waived for CG Elite platform members. Learn more
